Week 2 Summary

Week 2 Summary

Well, two weeks down! I have finished my second week of digital storytelling, and I can say that I see how things are building on top of each other. At the beginning of the week, I saw how things were beginning to get more and more difficult than the first week, and how the first week had prepared me to complete most of the assignments for this week. This week made me think more about what I was taking a picture of, and changed how I was setting up each of the photos.

I started this week by reading about one of the most famous designers Massimo Vignelli, and all about his concepts of design. You can read my reflection on the article and on his work in this post.

I completed a Design Blitz, which was an interesting way to put into practice the things that I had learned this week about setting up certain photos and seeing structure and design in everyday objects. One that I am very proud of is the photo below, showcasing the concept of dominance. The whole design blitz can be found here on my Flickr account.

Dominance

I also completed a number of Design Assignments this week, which are listed below:

Missing Elf

Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Confusing Contradiction

Are We There Yet?

Noir Valentine Card

I also complete four Daily Creates this week, list below:

June 29th

July 1st

July 2nd

July 4th

In addition to all these assignments, I completed two animated GIF assignments:

Home Video GIF

A Contradicting GIF

I learned a lot this week about design, and about how to set up shots in a meaningful way. One challenge this week was figuring out how to make animated GIFs, but after looking up some tutorials, I was able to use GIMP to create them. I enjoyed doing the Design Blitz the most because it made me look at things in a different way. I wish I would have had more time this week to complete the assignments, and I think that I would have been able to get more into the Design Blitz if I had had more time. Other than that, I think this week went very well, and I am excited to start the next week and learn something new!
